"Super league coach of Young Boys, Raphaël Wicky"

Super league coach of Young Boys, Raphaël Wicky""

The current coach of Young Boys, Raphaël Wicky, who has led the team for less than two years, might be on the verge of departing. Drawing parallels to Alain Geiger's situation at Servette FC last year, it seems that Raphaël Wicky is set to conclude his tenure this spring, despite achieving positive results.

Feeling disheartened by the management's refusal to engage in talks during the fall regarding a possible contract extension, Wicky appears unenthusiastic about continuing the adventure with Young Boys. In his various statements, he openly acknowledged the substantial workload that comes with such a position. He envisions himself, perhaps, in the future as a national team coach—a role he previously held with the U.S. U17 team in 2019.

Wicky is determined to make a graceful exit. Now free from constraints imposed by management, he is making decisions that might not align with the preferences of higher-ups, such as the demotion of Anthony Racioppi or the management of playing time for Aurèle Amenda and Jean-Pierre Nsame. However, given the positive results, it's challenging to criticize Wicky's choices.

As Young Boys enter the second part of the season, commencing with the match against Grasshoppers, Wicky enjoys a comfortable lead of five points over FC St-Gall and seven points over FC Zurich and Servette FC. However, he must navigate through the absence of two key players, Mohamed Camara and Meschak Elia, participating in the Africa Cup. Additionally, Ulisses Garcia's departure to Olympique de Marseille will be felt, although it has been compensated by the arrival of young Algerian Jaouen Hadjam from FC Nantes.

Despite these challenges, it's difficult to see how Young Boys could be defeated. Everything appears to align for the Bernese team to secure their sixth title in seven seasons. FC St-Gall doesn't pose a significant title challenge due to their vulnerability away from home, accumulating only six points in nine away matches compared to a perfect nine points at home.

The only team to disrupt Young Boys' dominance since 2017, FC Zurich, has encountered recent struggles. Uncertainties surrounding coach Bo Henriksen's future may have impacted the players, as they've only earned one point in their last three matches. In Geneva, the four points dropped in draws against Lausanne and Lugano, despite holding a lead, weigh heavily in the balance.

In conclusion, Young Boys seem well-positioned for another title, maintaining their dominance in Swiss football. YB (Young Boys)
